Vacuum Floor Tools Explained

Posted by Michael Sansom on

There are many types of vacuum cleaner floor tools to choose from. The best vacuum floor tool for you depends on the type of floor you have. The floor tool you choose can make a big difference to the cleaning performance of your vacuum cleaner.

Standard vacuum cleaner floor tool

A standard vacuum floor tool also known as a combination floor tool can be used to vacuum both carpets and hard floors. Most standard vacuum floor tools have a switch that raises and lowers a brush which allows you to vacuum both carpets and hard floors. Use the brush lowered for hard floor vacuuming as this will prevent scratching of the floor and use the brush raised for vacuuming carpets. Most vacuum cleaners come with a standard vacuum cleaner tool when purchased.

Vacuum hard floor brush

A vacuum hard floor brush, also known as a hard floor tool, is a vacuum attachment that is designed for vacuuming hard floors only. They are designed to prevent scratching of hard floors and look like a broom head. Hard floor brushes are popular with polished floors and tiles.

Vacuum hard floor mop

A vacuum mop is best suited to polished floors as these vacuum heads help remove dust and polish the floor at the same time.

Vacuum turbo floor tool

A vacuum turbo floor tool, also known as a turbo brush or a turbo head, is a vacuum floor tool that is designed to give a more deeper clean to carpets than a standard floor tool. A turbo floor tool contains a rotating brush to lift and beat your carpet as you vacuum. The rotating brush in a turbo floor tool is air-driven and relies on the suction power of the vacuum to keep rotating. The more powerful your vacuum the faster and more effective the turbo floor tool.

Vacuum powerhead floor tool

A vacuum powerhead has a rotating brush like a turbo floor tool but the rotating brush is powered by an electric motor.
